This is a post with the emotion range reading like a sine graph.
Oh, I didn't mention that my parents didn't go for the Parents-Teacher meeting thing yesterday. It was raining in the morning, and they were like, "SHOULD WE GO?" looking at me, and I was like, "Up to you, you're the parents, not me,"
And then they decided not to go. Hee. I guess it's because they know that, no matter how horrible my marks can get (Yes, I think my marks are horrible. To equate the scale of horrendousness - not a single A. Not even for English. Which is why, if I get >2000 points for my SATs, I'm still kind of screwed in the sense that NO WAY AN IVY LEAGUE would want to have a student with a 2.something, borderline 3.something GPA), the lecturers still have good things to say about me. Hahaperasan.
Thank goodness it's not school, though, where I actually get those, "You know you could totally do better" looks from the teachers.
Sigh, why are my days of sheltered youth ending so freaking quickly? Why? I don't get it. You know, after a while, when you start getting older, you'll start avoiding things you used to do, citing "I was an idiot back then", or "I'm too old for this nonsense" as your reasons, and really get too old.
As I grow older, I think that I sound a bit more shallow, I become a little bit more ignorant (A little is an understatement. It took me about 2 days to realize what was happening in Iran), my writing is a lot less serious and just... The more I'm exposed to so many scholarly readings and whatnot from people my age or maybe even a year or two older, it makes me feel quite inferior, that what I've been doing was never as great as it seemed.
Back to more shallow thoughts, today's Father's Day, and I came up with the conclusion that Priest is 'Paderi' in Malay because it's really a Malay-isation of the word 'Father', with a Filipino accent (Pader) and an 'i' at the end... just because. And, voila, you get 'Paderi'.
I want it to rain more. The Sun is making me depressed. ):
On other news, my sister is coming back tomorrow night! You can come over and say 'Hi' whenever you want, since you're all (You being Min Shen and Yih Shan and Yenn Ling and whoever) free.
I don't even know why I typed that. You're MY friends, not my sister's... Okay, mutual friend, WHATEVER LAH. If you somehow, for some WEIRD reason (I can see you going O_o already, Kache) miss my sister and want to say hi to her and listen to her on the phone and try to play some sort of guessing game as to which sister you're talking to, you can... whatever you want to do lah. Call, drop by...
On other notices-
I'm probably going to stay in the library 'til 6pm every day because of my suck ass marks. So, yeah. GOOOOOOODBYE, HOUSE VISITS FROM CHOO YENN LING. T_T
I totally read her mind about Shiny Toy Guns, though. Win!
So apparently I misinterpreted the 'list' Min Shen was referring to. Sorry, bb. Thank goodness the only relationship we have is friendship (I'm not implying anything else, by the way. =.=), or not this one would be to the drains. Or something.
ANYWAY.
Turns out that my mind would rather interprete it as "UNIVERSITY! GEN ED CLASSES!" rather than "MIN SHEN'S HUSBANDS!", the former of which I actually think is more appropriate. LOL.
But I'm a good friend and I shall help dear Min Shen with this list (Even though she'd probably go, "I DIDN'T ASK YOU TO POST IT ON YOUR BLOG!!1!!!111!") TOO BAD, I JUST DID IT.
THE GREAT MIN SHEN HUSBAND MASTERLIST Rejects to be crossed out. ;)
LAURIE Hugh (ENG) JACKMAN Hugh (AUS) QUINTO Zachary (USA) BALE Christian (WLS) (Okay, I don't know how Wales is listed in a country list) HOUSTON Joel (AUS) PACE Lee (USA)(?) WILSON Patrick (CAN) (Okay, I admit, this one's not really MS' husband) BUTLER Gerry (SCO)
CHO Jon (USA)
PINE Chris (USA)
URBAN Karl (NZL) (Neener, neener, Karl Urban's a New Zealander)
MORTENSEN Viggo (USA) (BRB, sniffing at the fact that he's American) BLOOM Orlando (ENG) WOOD Elijah (USA) ASTIN Sean (USA) BOYD Billy (SCO) WEAVING Hugo (AUS) (I love how all these awesome LOTR people are Aussie) McKELLEN Ian (ENG) STEWART Patrick (ENG) (We can't have Sir Ian without Sir Patrick :D)
I'm pretty sure I've left some people out. Funny how the list went from conventional husbands to the Phantom cast to Star Trek cast to the Lord of the Rings cast.
Yay Lord of the Rings. And Phantom.
OH, and Sara Hess had this rather cute Tweet. It goes, "Go see "Year One," everybody! The Princess is in it. She plays the princess." Heee. Yes. The Princess plays a princess in Year One.
Also, it took me a long time to notice that a satire video I watched was an analogy to HORSERACING. I mean, I was equating it to animals - you know how when they get really sick, they get put down? Yeah. Totally disregarded the whole parts about KNEE injury and BREEDING STOCK going up. O_O
Did I mention that I think 'wolleybubbles' is an incredibly presh username? I was even going to use the term 'qt' for it. But that's just... too much to process.

Because people studying for Architectural degrees AREN'T STUDYING RIGHT NOW and have RIDICULOUS amounts of free time, I have been tagged AGAIN.
1. The most hilarious moment I can remember is : Any form of adventures involving Min Shen, Pei Lyn, Li Za and Sue Mae with a cockroach (Yenn Ling, Candy and Yih Shan are pretty chill when it comes to cockroaches compared to the others).
2. Most embarassing moment involving me : Is something that I probably have forgotten about by now.
3. My age during my first kiss was: Sometime after my birth.
4. The qualities I look for in my working partner are: Willing to contribute and work, responsible, keeps me informed and is willing to compromise.
5. Qualities in my love partner: ... Dunno. But some conditions include NOT being a smoker.
6. The most complicated english vocabulary i know is: Something I think is uncomplicated, but probably what you would think is complicated.
7. The weird things I do during my free time are: Whine to myself about my life and how some aspects of it sucks.
8. If you live with me, you'd have to prepare yourself for..: Me organizing mess. Like, right now? I think my table's too messy and I want to clear it. But my bed? To me? NOT MESSY. >:D
9. My ultimate dream in life which is yet to be accomplished: To succeed.
10.I'm crazy about: a lot of things.
11.What I cannot tolerate in a friend: One who doesn't call just for fun.
12.One fact majority of my friends don't know about me is : I really am not as nonchalant as I seem, and that sometimes, I do care.

14.If all jobs pay the same salary, my dream job is: To become the Secretary-General of the United Nations. Or really, a housewife, because if I can just stay at home and get paid the same salary, I couldn't care. But of course, the Australian Bureau of Statistics states that a housewife's contributions to the economy cannot be equated, which is why they're not listed in the Labour Force Participation Rate(LFPR)/Employment Rate.
15.If I were on my death bed,my last words to all my treasured friends are: You are the best people I could have ever wished for, and I'll see you at the other side!

In other news, Dad sent our Audi to get checked at the Audi showroom/workshop today (Car's having some issues. Aw), and brought back an Audi magazine and the Bang & Olufsen magazine.
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE AUDI MAGAZINE: 1. It's Audi. 2. It has the George Clooney Omega ad 3. I found out that Al Gore rides around in an Audi 4. There's a Cate Blanchett pic and the words "INSPIRE". 5. The panas-ness that is the Audi R8.

The cool thing about American unis (And the University of Melbourne, which follows a US uni curriculum style) is the general studies that take place in the first (or second, depending on the uni) year of uni/college. So I was looking through the list of Georgetown Gen Ed classes, and HAHAHAHAHA, MIN SHEN WOULD LOVE IT. Anyhow, the requirements are something like,
Humanities and Writing 2 courses, History 2 courses, Philosophy 2 courses, Theology 2 courses, Math/Science 2 courses, Social Science 2 courses (except biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and B.S. physics majors), Mastery of a foreign language through the intermediate level. I'd totally take Mandarin as my foreign language. Kidding. I might want to do French. WHO KNOWS, RIGHT? ANYWAY, back on topic... the topic Min Shen would love is under Philosophy, and it is... THE PHILOSOPHY OF STAR TREK. TRUFAX, PEOPLE. For the list of Gen Ed classes of Georgetown, CLICK HERE. For the requirements, CLICK ELSEWHERE. In which I really mean HERE. Anyway, the philosophy section's pretty epic, there's bioethics in there (Bioethics!!! :DDDDD) Columbia's Gen Ed classes are named in a more epic way - The Core. One of the requirements? A PHYSICAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENT. HAHAHAHA. IF I GET INTO COLUMBIA, I NEED TO SWIM TO BE ABLE TO GRADUATE. LOL. TALK ABOUT "SINK OR SWIM" Okay, in library now, have access to Econs textbook. Time to finish up!

I TOTALLY FORGOT ONE MORE US UNI I SHOULD TRY TO APPLY TO.
GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY, IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
I just realized that, screw it if the uni isn't in the list of Universities That Accept SAM - it's a form of Year 12 anyway, AND GOOD RESULTS ARE ALL THAT MATTERS. Also, SAM>>>>>>A-Levels (Sorry, Yih Shan).
And Georgetown's has what they call a non-restrictive Early Action plan. Which means that I can apply to Georgetown AND Columbia by Nov 1 and get the decision by Dec 15 (HAHAHA DECISION BEFORE I KNOW MY TER). And the difference between EA and ED is that EA is non-binding. Which means that I can still opt out of the uni.
One problem, however, is that Georgetown was only ranked 110 in the THES rankings last year. Which is lower than uni's like ANU and UniMelb and, if I'm not mistaken, UWA (!!!). But, whatever. Georgetown's supposed to have one of the best International Affairs/Political Science faculties around.
But then maybe I should just die of boredom in Canberra than in Washington, DC. Cheaper that way...
HAHAHA.

I was helping someone write something, and she used a Ralph Waldo Emerson quote,
"What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."
It's true, you know? The past can't be fixed, the future is nothing because what happens now will determine it. So those are tiny matters compared to the present.
I'm currently in the mood to type random statements that come into my mind, so, ha.
Funny how I can interprete an essay question perfectly fine for English, yet make a stupid mistake in Econs. Ironic.
Also, I love that I got 18/20 for my Issue Analysis. My flubbed bits of "Uh, I made that up. From previous readings" still got me good marks. HAHAHA. Draft, though? Not good. But that was mainly because of me not adhering to the essay format.
The other night, I dreamt of my grandmother again. Twice in the space of a week, I think. Which has never happened before. Never in the sense that I never had dreams with my grandmother in them before. Anyway, it was just me and her, hanging out at home, chatting in Cantonese (My subconscious Cantonese > Conscious Cantonese).
And when I think back on it, it reminded me of the times when I was a kid - when I used to lie with her on the couch in the sitting hall, and she'd tell me stories of my Dad, my uncles and aunt when they were kids. I'd recite their names (Grandma and Grandpa included), both the Chinese and Anglicized versions. Just... being together.
When I was a kid, I lived with my grandparents in Singapore for a few weeks. I may remember very little of those days (I was 3), apart from being with my cousins who lived next door to my grandparents back then, sharing chocolates from that soft toy-chocolate pouch toy thing with Cousin A Year Older when she'd come over to our grandparents' for the adults' mahjong session, but I remember them being some of the most fun times ever. I remember my aunt and grandparents bringing me to the Singapore Zoo, I remember going on a cross-island journey with my grandmother to my Uncle's house in the Western tip (Well, not really cross. My grandmother used to live near the CBD), which was actually more of a public transport adventure (Because you know, Malaysian public transport sucked then, and it still does).
I remember an old picture of me with my grandparents in a park - you know, those you sit together at a bench with all the greens around you. It was a nice picture - there was us, and there were the trees. I need to look for that photo the next time I go down to Singapore; I want to keep it. I hope it didn't go missing after grandma moved out of the apartment.
There's a story which was told to me many times, which I still can actually remember, not just from what is told to me. When I was a kid, we used to have this 'buai' hanging off the ceiling in the sitting room, right, with the spring and all. And Grandpa used to rock me to sleep, and he'd count the number of rocks. I remember him counting and counting, 995,996,997,998,999... "1000, Ling, why aren't you sleeping yet?" I still remember it. Mum says that I only remember it because Grandma keeps telling me about it. But that fact is, I can really remember it. Just like I remember chewing the handle of the cot I used to sleep in. >:D Paint tasted good then. If my liver's powder blue, I know why.
