It pays to follow the director of House on Twitter.
HAHAHA. Love the lyrics - "Dr Wilson, you're his buddy, did he cut on and get slutty with Dr Cuddy" LOL. I don't ship Huddy, but Min Shen may like it. xD Oh, and "Perhaps he saw Dr Hadley in Maxim on Page 10". Win. House crew are milking "Hottest woman in the 'world'" for all it's worth. I mean, they already had a meta comment on the show itself.
Poor Taub gets no love.
This video is for Min Shen, whose character map is so presh. Oh, and the 'damage' I was talking about was mostly death-related. Look at it this way:
1. House: Um... soldier's kid, daddy issues, this guy's damaged lah. 2. Wilson: Aaaaaaaamber. And the divorced wives 3. Cuddy: Mysterious past, hmmm. She's like Stella! Leading ladies, but we barely know anything about them! 4. Chase: Daddy issues, patients he's killed, whether accidentally or not 5. Cameron: Poor Dead Husband. Ex-husband, to be precise. 6. Foreman: He must have had a screwed-up childhood to be breaking in and being involved in thievery. I mean, look at Parker! 7. Thirteen: Most tragic lah. They literally throw the kitchen sink at her. 8. Taub: Wife issues. 9. Kutner: He had such a messed up past. And... end. You know, messy, blood everywhere (Okay, I should stop making fun of that episode now)
1. My finals start tomorrow 2. I have not been studying. 3. It's disorienting typing on a laptop keyboard.
But before you squeal in joy and happiness, it's not mine, it's my Dad's. Still can't wait for my own laptop, though, whenever THAT'S coming. Oh, and it's November. I think I'll only participate in NaNoWriMo next year, when I have MY OWN LAPTOP. Handwriting about 15k (Or was it 150k?) words and then retyping them out would be a pain in the ass. So yes, anyway...
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN READING ABOUT WHAT I WAS LIKE WHEN I WAS 3? I know I am. So here's a letter from my aunt to my parents, when I was living for a while in Singapore back in 1994. Complete with new Person They're Referring To notes. Bahaha. Here it goes... --------------------
Dear brother [Dad's name] & [Mum's name],
I'm glad to hear that you've settled down in Australia. Is the apartment very near to the hospital? By the way, you have not told me the name of the hospital! Is the weather okay? How is Ying adjusting to the new environment and weather? How is she taking the several tests (medical)?
[Mum's name] says that the bone marrow transplant will be carried out on 26 Oct 1994 if everything turns out okay. Is that correct? Please keep me updated on her progress.
Ling Ling has settled down with us very well. On Friday, they arrived at about 5pm. We brought them out for dinner in the evening, came home, cut my birthday cake and retired to bed early. On Saturday, Jo (sis-in-law) came to pick Mum (My grandmother, obviously) up for a session of mahjong at 4th brother's house. Initially, your little one wanted to follow Mum, but after playing with Li Li (My cousin) for a while she was prepared to let Mum go without any fuss.
We went to 4th brother's house later in the afternoon. She did not ask for Mum at all! She is getting along real fine with my two girls. They think she's very cute. Before going to the party I brought her down for a swim in the pool. Her cousins were having their swimming lessons at the same time. She enjoyed herself so much that she refused to get out of the pool and stayed there for 1 1/2 hours! Naturally she slept very well that night. She enjoyed herself thouroughly at I Ming's (Older cousin) party, following her cousins around. Whenever I introduced her to her cousins she would nod her head and greet them, but when it came to Yong Ni's (Another older cousin) turn, she shook her head very hard and said "No!" several times when I said that Yong Ni is her cousin! Yong Ni was heartbroken.
On Saturday, 4th sis-in-law came to Landmark for her mahjong session. 1st sis-in-law did not come until dinnertime because she was moving house that day. She has relocated to an apartment at one of the Lorongs in Telok Kurau, pending renovation of her house. I have not been there yet. In the afternoon I brought all the children down for a swim. After an hour I took Li Li and your little one up because Li Li was not feeling too good. Your little one cried when I did not bring her down again and was so angry with me that she refused to let me bath her! She asked for Auntie (my maid Anna) to bath her. After her bath Anna tried to pat her to sleep but I told her not to do that because I did not want Ling to get into the habit of being patted to sleep. I put her on a mattress next to the mahjong table so she could see Mum and she fell asleep within seconds. She's amazing! Can you imagine sleeping in the midst off all that noise?
I am also trying to train her to eat on her own. She can do it and she eats quite fast too (especially when all the cousins are around), but when Mum is around she tends to rely on Mum to feed her. Well, let's see if I can ween her in time. She has no difficulty drinking water from a mug except when she is drinking milk. I think she does not like milk very much.
She spent Monday playing with Li Li. Mum and Dad went out in the morning with cousin [I can't read the name. Yin Ching? Dunno. Anyway]. I did not let her bring Ling along because it was very hot. That afternoon she slept with Li Li in our house.
So you see that you don't have to worry about Ling at all!
Have to go now. Cheerio. Will write to you again.
------------------------------------------------- Hahaha. I'm so going to bring this down to Singapore the next time I go down. Never really struck me, you know, all this suffering I put my aunt through. LOL. I better thank her properly when I see her. xD
Anyway, some comments -
1. Yes, I sleep under mahjong tables. Yes, I sleep when it's noisy. Basically, I sleep anywhere/anytime/whenever I want to sleep. 2. NO I did not like milk very much. Still don't. XD 3. I did not know that I broke my older cousin's heart. HAHAHAHAoh, me. 4. I didn't know that I was a fast eater, either. Guess I got past the staring stage already. 5. I wonder whether I would've been an awesome competitive swimmer if I kept at my love for the pool. xD
Hope that amused you. Will be posting again soon, I guess. You know me - I blog more frequently when I'm taking exams than when I'm not.
10 days til I don't take Chemistry and hopefully, Math any more!
Four envelopes, lots of papers, lots of money poured into it, I have passed them to the Placement Centre to courier the documents off to New York and Washington DC.
Nothing matters now. I have sent my (only) applications to the United States.
Please pray for me, people. :)
PS. I completely revamped my essay. I edited the beginning (Cut most of it until the bit where it was my first time on public transport), cut out the bits where I was talking about arts and sports, and just elaborated on the Bio/Econs and added about my experience as a prefect (the softer side, not about the leadership. That was covered by my resume). Thanks for the help, people. I didn't really take all of it to heart, sorry, but I think Min Shen's and Jen's were some of the most valuable. Especially Min Shen's friend saying that it felt like I lacked focus. Please thank him for me! And Jen, your Aunt, too! Thank you very much, Joel, Edmond and Sue Sue Sue Sue Mae! Love you guys. Also, thank you Wei Wen for forwarding me your resume to take a look at. Boy you have a lot of activities. My 1 page resume looked tiny against yours, heheh.
Looking forward to the end of Finals. And for my sister coming back (Hey, that's new! Ooh, and Kache, could you please get caaaaaaaandy canes?). And Singapore in November. And Singapore in December. And Singapore again. And not looking forward to uni/SAM results. Then looking forward to Singapore again. And something. I don't know. If my SAM results are good enough I'll go take an internship or something.
LIFE. IT'S FRIGHTENING.
COVER YOUR EYES, KIDDIES. IT'S A ROUGH RIDE AHEAD.
Anyway, remember those days, when we played squash, we used to randomly imitate tennis player grunts? Like Sharapova's, Mauresmo's and most importantly (and often), Ditzy Dementieva's?
DEMENTIEVA'S TOTALLY COMING TO KL IN DECEMBER, YO. However, of all days, when my Finals results are out. Sheesh.
Maybe if I get good grades I can go celebrate by going to watch tennis players I'm not invested in.
PS. I lie. I'm a closet Lena D fan. She amuses me. I couldn't care less about Kirilenko, Zheng or Mirza, though...
PPS. Check your e-mails. Some of you may have gotten a copy of my uni essay to review.
Bahaha, I got my conditional offers from Sydney, New South Wales and ANU. Two from ANU, actually. Commerce and Arts (International Relations). Because there were up to 6 choices, AND, YOU KNOW, NEVER TRY, NEVER KNOW.
I spent, like, almost 40 minutes chatting with Ms Cheang. Heh heh heh. She must think that I'm really, really weird now. She was asking me why I wanted Liberal Arts. To be specific, Political Science. So I just told her what I thought and what I was interested in (And you know I tend to rant), then she was like, "Hahaha, you're really an Arts student".
Got most of my US applications stuff sorted out - all I need now is to pass my parents the financial aid papers, and finish up my 3 essays. Well, I'm technically done with one. But I think it's crap, so...
Thank goodness financial aid deadlines are AFTER my finals (Well, not very much after. November 15), but I'm not the one worrying about tax forms, so...
Ah, well. If I'm going to be in the library tomorrow from 8 to 730 like today, I WILL sit down and get done with my essays. >:D
My computer decided to get its hard disk corrupted (that's what Dad and I are guessing) after Mum finished up on searching for bread recipes on the Internet. How the heck do you get a hard disk corrupted from Googling "Bread recipes"?
Anyway, so now I can turn on my computer, but it doesn't go to the blue user-select screen. It just stays black. With the mouse pointer (Which is still interactive!) there. Sigh. Can cry. DO YOU KNOW HOW DEPRESSING IT IS? I don't really care about my Internet bookmarks and such (My memory/frequency of using the Internet = I already wrote down my bookmarks), but... MY MUSIC. MY PICTURES. My videos not so much lah, I have them on my thumb drive/House and NY are still early into the season I'm not losing much eps. Not like they've been great this season either. BUT MY PICTURES. I JUST REALIZED THAT I HAVE BACKED EVERY ONE OF MY PICTURES BUT THE ONES FROM SCHOOL AND COLLEGE. CAN CRY. THOSE. THE MOST IMPORTANT PICTURES. THE ONE I CAN'T GET BACK SINCE I'VE ALREADY DELETED THEM FROM THE CAMERA. SOME OF THEM ARE NOT ON FACEBOOK. Sigh.
For music, well, all I have to do is redownload about... 170 songs. That's all. I've passed Dad most of my songs the last round, INCLUDING Viva la Vida and Left Right Left Right. I have Ocean Eyes on my thumbdrive, but now I have to go searching for my Transatlanticism, You Leave Me Alone, Drive My Soul and A Puzzle That Fell mixes. Sigh.
Thank goodness I saved all my uni applications in my thumbdrive. Or not...
Billy Joel's "We didn't start the fire" is stuck in my head. Catchy song.
This will be the prelude to my "SAM is over!" megapost on (hopefully) Friday. Or rather, this weekend.
I just saw a video thing. Made me wish ShawnJohn was AA champ, but eh, Nastia's cool too. That video did succeed in making me miss Tots, though. And their coaches. Chow and Valeri are awesome. xD
Back to what I wanted to post about -
We got our Winganga-Li yesterday (That's our yearbook. You know, like how the SU yearbook is called "Gemala"), and then of course you get people to sign it (3 pages IS NOT ENOUGH, by the way. For me lah, at least). And then you read the comments, and wonder how true it is.
So, my dear blog readers (or rather, those who know me personally), do you associate these words with me?
- "positive attitude towards life" Class mentor/Bio lecturer - "bubbly personality" Econs lecturer. Don't know where she came up with that.
and do I always look stressed out/uptight? Cause I think that I'm quite laid back. Hm.
Math lecturer wrote something really cheesy. But Chem lecturer wrote something made of pure LULZ. "If you need help, don't hesitate to find me. If you need $$$$$ --> GO TO BANK!" he wrote for another classmate something along the lines of
It doesn't matter if you're smart or stupid. Just make sure you marry a rich husband.
LOLdamn sexist and mean.
Need to sleep now. Walked from home to SU in the morning, then during my break, walked from college to SU and back to college. I'm beat.
Maybe they're wearing those awful, awful pink leotards because they're feeling very awesome and wanting to do something about breast cancer awareness. Which makes them very... noble. But still an eyesore.
Anyhow, to clear up what I ACTUALLY wanted to type on Friday which I forgot about yesterday - my CSI:NY Season 6 wishlist is almost fulfilled. I'VE ALREADY HAD LINDSAY CHASING DOWN A SUSPECT. HANDLING HER GUN. TACKLING SAID SUSPECT. Now if only we'd have more of that. And I want more Flack/Lindsay bits. Or rather, Lindsay/Everyone But Danny scenes. I ship them and all, but even I think that there are either too many D/L scenes, or that it's so cheesy I snort out loud.
ON THE OTHER HAND, get Sarah Carter out. Now. I don't think she brings much to the table, AND IF YOU KILLED ANGELL OFF BECAUSE YOU COULDN'T AFFORD EMMANUELLE FREAKING VAUGIER BECAUSE OF THE ECONOMY, DON'T WASTE THE EXTRA MONEY ON A NEW CHARACTER WHICH WILL TAKE TIME AWAY FROM THE CHARACTERS THAT DESPERATELY NEED DEVELOPMENT. Spend your extra money on getting Sam Flack back instead of Haylen BECALL. Bring Ridiculous Old Fraud Carmen Argenziano back. I've had enough Mactimony and I want good CSI NY storylines. As much as I love Gary Sinise, too much Mactimony is like having Foreman lead the Diagnostics team. Awful.
Also, there was a teeny tiny article on the All Around! I find it amusing that they reported the outcome of the women's AA but not the men's AA. Also, Brossy gets a picture. LIKE, WHAT? Okay, I admit, it's a pretty picture of a clearly over-extended split leap (Psssh WOGA. Heee) in that lighting predominantly found in fencing or gymnastics, but NOT ENOUGH BRIDGET LOVE.
To the more serious stuff, I'm seriously needing something to write about for my college essays. I've not had any inspiration so far. A few ideas here and there, but then even when they're floating in my head, they already sound trite. Unoriginal. Fake. Not me. I don't know what to write. The horror.
If I don't go to the US, I'm going to end up like my mother. Not that it's a horrible thing, my mother's awesome (Put your hands up if you agree, people) and successful and all that, but I think I'd cry if I worked in a bank. Whatever happened to working for the passion you have in said job instead of for money? Doesn't passion/love for what you do >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> money? Okay, I know that working for the UN/Becoming Sec-Gen = $$$$$ but still, there's the underlying motive of wanting to change the world. Change how things are. Change how things work. Work to a better future.
My mother just asked if I had decided what I was going to sign up for Australia, and I replied "Bachelor of Commerce larh", and she did this happy jig that made me sad. And I petulantly added "Because you and Dad wouldn't let me do anything else". She must've had that "Teenagers" thought in her mind as she hugged me, but she was like, "It's praaaaaaaaaactical. And you get to do what I do!".
I honestly think that Mum really wants me to follow her footsteps and be more successful than her and all that. I mean, we are similar. Frighteningly so. You don't think that genetics and nature/nurture would have much effects on a person's attitude, but you'd be surprised. For someone whose parents go to work and only see their parents at night and on the weekends and the times they make to spend with me and my sister, I'm so alike my mother it's scary. For starters, my sister looks like my mother, but I think is more like my Dad (Heehee, TAKE NO OFFENSE, Kache, but it's true. Somehow. Vaguely... I have no explanation. See you on the 15th! :D). Oh, and she has the Chia physique (Legs that go up to Canada. Hahaha. See that House reference?). I look like my Dad but have the Chan physique (Pear shaped. HAHAHAHASINCE WHEN DO I BLOG ABOUT BODY SHAPES?).
Anyway, I'm not talking about the physical similarities. Like my mum, I like reading and baking and I think my management style could be similar. I mean, obviously prefects are not as large-scale as an investment bank, but I get that feeling, because when she comes back from this training courses thingamajigs, I steal her papers (Those with the "What's your management style?" kind of questionnaires) and most of the answers she put are similar to what mine would be. You know those Big Five personality tests? Those Myers-Briggs tests? Yeah. Similar results. Although I took one provided by the college the other day - they said that I float between INTJ and INTP depending on the situation. Heeeh.
I remember at one point, there was something with the prefectorial board, and I had an idea of what should be done/had to be done/what could be done, and I was talking to my Mum about it, and she basically told me what I already thought up. OH, and our preferences for places to travel. Obviously, I've travelled less than Mum, but the things we want to see are pretty similar. Like when my parents went to NY last year - Dad was talking about the museums being huge and all, and I was like, "I'd love to go on a holiday JUST to see what's in those museums," and my Mum agreed. And we joked that we'd go to NY and just go to all the museums - the Met, the Guggenheim, etc etc. Dad doesn't like long flights, that's why he doesn't enjoy traveling much. Also, I like places which are both vibrant, metropolitan places but with plenty of history. I haven't been to a place that could beat Beijing in that respect, yet.
Also, my love/ability for art probably came from my mother. She used to draw a lot, too, apparently. While waiting for her Form 6 results, she said that she taught Art in a school.
Since this is my blog, I'm going to take my own time justifying the decision to sign up for the Bachelor of Commerce in Australian universities instead of the personal choice of Bachelor of Arts majoring in Political Science/International Relations.
Taking a Bachelor of Commerce doesn't exactly take me away from my dream of working in the UN or being Secretary-General. I mean, look at my Mum's friend - she's an Economics major. She's working in the Financial sector of the UN. Not everything in the UN is about political analysts and advisors and the General Assembly or Security Council or Human Rights Commission or International Court of Justice. Like every other organization, there are the people who runs the place. You need a Finance and Administration sector. You need a Human Resources sector, among other things. Besides, the General Assembly only meets like, twice a year... ish. AND the Financial sector is vital in which they do all the calculations on how much to spend where (Hahaha, I still remember the bit about the Sec-Gen changing his mind from more money for Africa to less money for Africa to making the Finance & Admin people being more busy than they already are).
Besides, the post of Secretary-General requires a Political Science Postgrduate Degree, not Undergraduate. Of course International Relations undergrad woud go well with Political Science postgrad to SECRETARY-GENERALSHIP, but hey, a Business Administration/Commerce undergrad and experience with dealing with people on a wheel & deal, moneymoneymoney basis would have its advantages too, right? It's not as if dealing with banks would be any more different with dealing with countries. Financial institutions and MNCs rule the world nowadays. (Note: this is a sarcastic undercut at the condition of the world, okay? It's sarcasm. Sarcasm isn't easily read out, so I forgive you)
They'll need someone who can give everyone a kick in the ass, to make them see sense (Sens, not Dollars. Sometimes you have to look at the small details before looking at the big picture).
Okay, I don't feel like ranting any more. All I know, and all I believe is that God has something great planned for me, and He will let me know about it. Like what Mr Jacob said to me the other day - He'll close all the doors and just leave one open, and close all the windows so you'll see that door. Just pray and have faith.
Me? I'm a tennis fan, more specifically, a Justine Henin fan. I also enjoy watching gymnastics and the 2008 Olympics USWGT. Because they're awesome. Although some of them are younger than me and make me feel bad because of it.
