Just a quick one...

Um... Just to break away from the poignant, reflecting posts...

After Justine retired, Rolex stopped sponsoring her.

HAHAHA. After much re-evaluation, they've taken her up again. WIN!

How awesome is that? As sponsorships are hard to come by for people now as the economy takes a downturn, Justine Henin, retired World Number 1 in tennis is still getting sponsorships.

Awesomesauce (I've been using it a lot lately, I don't know why, haha).

Anyway, Yih Shan spent practically half her day over at my place (As usual), with guest appearances by Yenn Ling, Christina and Li Za (I was like, who's that girl in the I <3 SU shirt? OH. LI ZA?! WHAT'S SHE DOING HERE?). Poor Yenn Ling had an acupuncture session earlier, LOL.

School! Part 1: Me? A kid?

Here I begin an epic long post after a long rant about things. Anyway.

It's hard to believe that my 11 years in the school system is over, and that now I am moving on to college. The last 2 years, especially, seemed very fast for me. Form 3, if I recall correctly, felt like it was very long. I guess it was mostly because of my being an AJK.

Funny how the years felt shorter as I grew older.

Fun fact: I used to go to kindergarten with Li Za, Dic Vinn, Jon Yoon and Lisa, to name a few. I took the bus with Lisa (We used to read the expletives that were scribbled on the back of the bus seats, haha). Lisa was like my awesome friend in kindergarten, okay? And, haha, I remember sitting beside Amirul back then too.

ANYWAY.

PRIMARY SCHOOL.

I still stand firm with my saying that Standard 6 was one of my best years of my life, if not THE best year. But I shall begin from, well, the beginning anyway. SS19 was an awesome school. In Std 1, I took the bus to school. With Dhivya. Her sis and my sis are as old as each other, so they knew each other and they sat together in the bus. So, technically, Dhiv was one of my first friends from primary school. Anyway, we sat together on the bus. Every morning. In the same seat.

In class, I sat beside a certain Ng Min Shen, whose name I always forgot, but thankfully, she had one of those bags that came with the trolleys, and she had her name written on it, and she put it in the middle (If memory serves me right, we sat at the back. And she was sitting on the left, while I sat on the right). So that was a way to remember her name. LOL. Sorry, Shen. My name-memorizing skills suck compared to yours back then.

Min Shen was already an artist back then, right? Drawing all those Sailor Moon stuff. Hahaha. Oh, and drawing the illustrations from Enid Blyton books... right? Anyway, Min Shen has always been taller than me, and that has never changed. Hmph. Oh, then she dumped me for SJ in Std 2. I didn't even see THAT coming. Haha. Well, who does? Not that you really care about moving schools when you're 7, LOL. Lisa was also in 19 in Std 1, but she was in another class. She moved to SJ in Std 2, too. Hahaha.

Standard 2 was one of my weirdest years in school. My class teacher was virtually nonexistant for most of the year, so my class got split up. I wanted to go to SS (Yih Shan's class), because we had Moral with them for the previous year, so I knew people there. But I got sent to KS instead. Sheesh. But, if I recall correctly, Candy! was in KS. I don't remember much from Standard 2 because it's not that interesting.

Standard 3 was blah, as well. Although a little less boring. I became a librarian... That's how I first met Julia. I remember sitting for PTS. And that my close friends were Sook Yee and Phoebe. And that I hung out with the guys more. Hee. That was one thing in Primary School - I hung out more with the guys. But in secondary school... That sorta changed, eh? Anyway, at the end of Standard 3, we were streamed for Standard 4 (Because streaming only started in Std 4). I was placed in SS with people like JEN! and JULIA! YIH SHAN! LATHA! HASHEENA! CANDY! XIN YIN! JO LYN! JONATHAN (Yang)! JIMMY (I sat beside him in... Std 6? Always called him 'Chin Hong')! ERIK! JOSHUA! ZATY! DHIIIIIVYA! ETC! ETC! Anyway, I sat beside Yih Shan and we decided we'd sit together for the next year. Julia interested me because she was basically this really hyper bouncy ball of insanity (And she was a librarian on duty with me for a short while, so I technically knew her), and Jen was so quiet she amused me. Sorry Jen. I just knew you were more awesome than you let in. Haha.

In Standard 5, I was also in SS. And by this time, I was really, really close with Jen and Julia and Yih Shan. On the tuition front, I went to the British Council, and that's how I knew Alex before she came to SS19. I also met Aaron (Lim, 5 Zeta) and May Yuan (Also 5 Zeta, LOL) in BC.

At the end of Standard 5, and I don't think I'll be the only one remembering this - it was post-exams, so we were all free doing all our stuff. And Jen, Julia and I would be playing Lego (Yes. We were very feminine). While Sharvinna and the others would play with Barbie dolls (Haha, stark contrast from one end of the classroom to the other). One day, there was this new girl who would be joining us next year, and that she'd come to settle in before Std 6, or something. Julia and I, being the psychotic ones, were all, "WOULD YOU LIKE TO JOIN US? 8D"

Must've freaked Cheryl out then, HAHAHA. Anyway, I remember she was all, "Uuuh... No thanks?" but we left an open invitation anyway. We were so awesome back then. LOL, kidding.

Anyway, Cheryl also became one of my closest friends in Std 6. She was always with Candy, LOL. But since our names were one after the other, we sat beside each other during exams. And we had fun exchanging stories. Especially hers. Haha. Stepping on staplers, kicking doctors during routine checkups... Oh, and there was once, she had a really bad asthma attack... was it during trials? Anyway, that was quite scary. We got to call her aunt, though. And now she's fine and dandy.

Standard 6 also had a lot of insane moments. Yih Shan, Dhiv and I used to join the guys to play football. We played a lot of handball. Oh, and the Ramble. Ah, the Ramble was so awesome. I think Julia still has our 20+ volumes. With Anthrax (Fine. It was talcum powder. But, whatevs) in it.

We had the best teachers in Std 6. Pn Chang, especially, and she always was in the Bilik Muzik with Pn Yeoh (Ju Yinn's mum! HAHAHAHAHA!) chatting in Hokkien or whatever dialect they chatted in. It was definitely not Cantonese or Mandarin.

Whenever we had lessons in the computer lab, Pn Chang and all would be "Finish the questions then you can play the games" (The thing has UPSR questions, then if you achieved a certain score you could play Vs Tetris. So there was a whole Tetris Cup thing in class). Julia, Jen and I amused ourselves, not by playing tetris, but by tweaking with HTML on Microsoft Frontpage. LOL. SEE. THAT IS HOW I KNOW HTML.

UPSR ended, there was this end-of-the-year sports thing for us to pass time. So we played handball, duh. I remember interchanging between Yih Shan to be goalie. We got... What? Third? Second? I can't remember now.

And I was an idiot. Don't ask me why, but I EFFING SKIPPED THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL. WTF WAS WRONG WITH ME?!

I was in Melbourne when the UPSR results came out, LOL. When I got back the first thing I did was call Yih Shan to ask. Woohoo!

And then, there was SECONDARY SCHOOL.

Okay, I'm not feeling eloquent right now, so Part 2 will be up when I do.

A rant. About college and what comes after.

Got back from a quick weekend in Singapore - will blog about it.

In the meantime, I need to get my NS appeal sorted out, and explain to Dad how I KNOW I HATE the British system (Exams are all that matters), and that I know I will suffer with exams, but I WANT to go to the States, and unless he is willing to scoop out an equivalent of 1 year of uni for me to go to IB, A-Levels is my only option that can open enough doors for me. Dad has this fixation against the A-Levels ("What's with your fixation on studying in the States?"), and a fixation FOR SAM (Pot calling the kettle black).

Anyway, he makes it sound like I want to come back and work in Malaysia or something. Which was always at the bottom of my plans (Even if studying in Australia - I'd work there, too). And they're all "You know it won't be easy getting into the UN, right?"

Look, I KNOW it's not easy to get into the UN. That's why I don't mention ANYTHING about Political Science being a REQUIREMENT for SEC-GEN. It doesn't meant I'll ONLY work in the UN. It's an END GOAL. THE LONG-TERM GOAL. THE ONE TO WORK TOWARDS.

And I thought parents were supposed to be supportive. Just because my sister isn't doing THAT amazing in uni doesn't mean I'LL end up the same way. OF COURSE NOT. ESPECIALLY IF I DO get into COLUMBIA. DUDE. IT'S IVY LEAGUE. FAIL ANYTHING, YOU GET KICKED OUT. Not literally, but seriously - you're talking about learning from the most brilliant minds, and studying AMONG the most brilliant minds - kinda makes you look like the idiot in class if you fail anything, right? Especially when it's a bigass chance that no one else in the class will fail.

BESIDES. A-Levels will give me a bigger chance of getting in MORE uni's than SAM will. I don't only have the Ivies. There's still the University of Boston (Okay, it's actually uMass, Boston). I can apply for Georgetown. Better uni's and a wider choice than just Columbia, Cornell, Princeton and 7 other unranked, unknown uni's.

I'm fine with mum - she's not saying much against what I've told her. But dad. He's so... uptight all the time. So skeptical on everything. I know it's his personality (Comes from my grandmother, I reckon). He works hard and all, but he keeps cutting across when I want to say something. It's frustrating. Good listener is NOT what my dad is.

I know I can take the leap of faith and believe in myself. I need them to understand that when I do believe in myself, I CAN do it. Look - I never failed Add Maths again after the Jan exams. Why? Because I hated failing, and I didn't want to fail again. Notice the lack of red marks after that? And they should stop complaining about me being prejudiced against accounting. They're being prejudiced against Political Sciences (Okay, mum isn't. But Dad still has that frame of mind of me coming back to Malaysia working with a PolSci degree. NO. NOT A CHANCE IN HELL)

Oh, and they were talking about how I should not be so narrow, don't just think about Political Sciences. Well, I DID say that I AM leaving other options open. Like Sociology. Biomed is still on the list. The fact is, I have managed to leave my options pretty open for college, and even if I am left with humanities to study, I know what they are, and what I want to do.

As you can see, that was one heck of a long ride down to Singapore. Thankfully the topic has yet to resurface. Or not I'd tear my hair out and ask about THEIR problem with me trying to study in the States.

Hgrmph. It's past midnight. I shall go to sleep. And brood more about my future impending doom tomorrow, and throw out old secondary school books.

HA!

HOUSE

and

CSI NY

ARE

CAPTAIN AWESOMESAUCE.

Sorry. It's called the post-SPM high. Now I can collect my thoughts and write about life in school. And in my diary, too, because appropriately - I have 2 empty pages left in that book which I've used since '03 (No, I was not a good diary-updater)

Gosh, my morning tomorrow is going to be insane for about 2 hours.

9am - Return textbooks, pass reference books to Joanna

After that: Settle NS stuff. And then do stuff.

Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedom has never been this busy. >.>

Things to blog about:
1) Prop 8
2) School! Primary, SECONDARY!
3) WHAT HAPPENS AFTER

.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.

THIRD BATCH. SERIOUSLY?

I AM GOING TO APPEAL FOR FIRST BATCH, OR NOT GO FOR NS AT ALL.

Heh.

LJ is being a bitch right now.

And I seem to have lost what I typed just now - but it's okay. It was only, what, 3 lines?

Anyway, I think I shall have a good sit down and type about my SECONDARY/HIGH SCHOOL LIFE, or rather, my ENTIRE SCHOOL LIFE after SPM, to celebrate/mourn the ending of one stage of my life and the beginning of another.

Random randoms for the day: I didn't know I had Stick It until I was watching 07 Worlds with my sis, and she was like, "Have you watched Stick It yet?" I CAN'T BELIEVE I HAD IT IN THE DVD ALL THE TIME. Thankfully I didn't download it. It would've been a waste of disc space and time.

Also, I like this picture. And Chooi Si looks like a creeper. Hee.

O_o

Good Lord I suddenly thought it was Friday.

Hmm.

There was something I wanted to update about just now, but I seem to have forgotten. I will when I remember.

Saturday, November 22, 2008
Meh.

So last night, I had a talk with my Mum about what I planned to study/major in next time, because that would affect what I first take in college.

*Cue how-did-you-do-in-exams, what-subjects-are-your-strength*

I was telling her how I would love to do Science (Like Biomed), but now I'm unsure of whether I really want to be in a lab all the time. I mean, I love having alone time, but Science poses a different sort of challenge. And I told her that realistically, I'd end up doing Humanities. My Mum told me how she wanted to be a Microbiologist ('Cause she rocked at Bio), but sucked at Chemistry (I was like, "What? I thought you said you sucked at Physics"), so she couldn't do microbiology in the end (Imagine, my mum as David Sandstrom. Oops. Going off topic), and then she was saying that she felt that she was a very analytical person. THUS, ACCOUNTANCY CAME UPON HER. (Man I hope that doesn't happen to me. But now I realized how much more similar I am to my mum. I mean, type of food we like is one thing. How I act is another. LOL) (I have good genes.)

She didn't seem to mind when I said I wanted to do Political Sciences, haha. She was like, "The first degree isn't really *that* important. It's *where* you get your first degree from," because she knows this guy who's a director in an investment bank who got a degree in HISTORY in Oxford. It's more of the analytical skills and stuff that they want.

Mum also suggested that I might want to take Commerce (Uh... Accounting? No.) and major in something OTHER than accounting, like, maybe Business Admin or something. (Cue "Oh, I'd love to work in the UN" I got a "There, Business Admin can what." reply)

Then Mum suggested Psychology, which I think is an interesting field of study, but I don't want to spend too much time with head cases, or not I might become a head case myself. Besides, Psychology is taught in Political Sciences, so that's covered a little, LOL. Then I was like, "Psychology? HMM. HOW ABOUT SOCIOLOGY?" because it's probably a less head case-y study of human behaviour.

My problem now : I want to study in the US. The only way I can get into a good uni/an Ivy League, is if I take A-Levels or IB. Because SAM? Is only accepted in 7 US uni's, from the list I checked. I don't want to take A-Levels, because I know that I suck under the British education system, and the problem with IB will be cost and accessability to the campus (Taylors is offering it at Sri Hartamas at mid '09, the only other place that offers IB is ISKL - That is, The International School of KL, and if I'm not wrong, KDU. You know how expensive private schools are. Ew.)

So, since I want to work in the UN, I just thought that maybe I'd ask my mum's friend for input, since she works in the UN. But then I realized that she's only coming back from NY during, like, Chinese New Year, I think, and DAMN YOU, NATIONAL SERVICE. Unless I somehow get to see her during my one-week break which I will be applying for for CNY. Hmph.

SO YOU KNOW WHAT MY PLAN IS NOW?

PRAY. Hahaha. Yes, I'll pray so that I make the right choice and that I won't ever regret it. EVER.

SO I SHALL PRAY.

AND STUDY BIO AND PHYSICS. NOW.

[Edit]: OMG THEY SHOWED AARHUS. THEY FREAKING SHOWED AARHUS. THEY SHOWED THE WOMEN'S EVENTS AFTER THE MEN'S. WHICH MEANS I PROBABLY MISSED STUTTGART!

NO!

OTOH: Nastia was already out of her awkward stage in '06, aSac was already captain, and Chellsie fell off the UB, but she's still fierce. Also, Dad (Who happened to be near the TV when I just changed channels to OMGCHELLSIEMEMMEL) went "Chellsie Mem(As in memo)mel (As in Mel Gibson)" I LOL'ed internally.

Also, Cheng Fei is awesome. 'Nuff said. And it was only teams. I'm holding my hopes out that next week they'll show individuals ('Cause Soccermoney won Silver on vaults in Aarhus!). WAIT.

NO. NO. SHOW RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS NEXT WEEK. I WON'T BE HERE. THERE'S NO 8TV IN WHOEVERS HOUSE IT IS IN SINGAPORE. GAH.

[Edit edit] Oh, ShawnJohn, why so presh? I know you love peace signs and all. But seriously. I don't think peace signs should be on leotards. And are you doing it because Nastia has a signature line of gym equipment? Because if you are, that is adorable. And you can't have tater without tots.

[Triple edit] I can bet with you that you didn't understand a single one of my edits.

Random =D

Chellsie is so awesome with her car choice. AUDI, FTW! And her dream car? "My silver Audi TT" (Which she already owns) Upgrade to the R8, bb. Or you could just modify your TT to look like an R8 (Because I saw someone's TT modified to have the R8 sideblades and stuff. But the original >>>>>>>>> a modified TT)

Did I tell you that my Dad SAW AN AUDI R8 WHEN THEY WENT TO SINGAPORE TWO WEEKENDS AGO? WHY? WHY DID HE GET TO SEE THE R8 AT ONE OF THE *ONLY* TIMES I COULDN'T FOLLOW THEM DOWN TO SINGAPORE?! (DARN YOU, SPM)

Considering the fact that he saw it around the Marine Parade/Marine Parade Community Centre area, I am holding my hopes up that the R8 belongs to SOMEONE ON THE EAST COAST, AND I WILL BE ABLE TO SEE IT, SOMEHOW, WHEN I GO DOWN TO SINGAPORE NEXT WEEKEND. Or not I'll just beg someone to drive me to the Audi showroom.

Anyway, 3 days of exams left to go. My sister is coming back on Sunday night, and I probably wouldn't be able to see her until Monday afternoon (Aaaw), unless I cheat and stay up 'til about midnight. But Monday is Bio, and... whatever lah, see what happens.

Also, House mentioned Olympic gymnasts. It wasn't funny, but I LOL'ed.

NS list is supposedly going to be up online on the 27th. So...

Hmm...

Chemistry was...

Chemistry was...

Now it's gonna be hard to get an A1. And it was kinda anti-climactic after all the INSANE Pn Christina/Pn Pushpa/Pn Lee Yoke Lay chem papers we get in school, and Trials was definitely trickier, but I hope I didn't make any silly mistakes.

OH, BIO ON MONDAY. MY FAVOURITE SCIENCE SUBJECT. I haven't been reading Bio recently, though. Aw. I hope Genetics comes out. I love that chapter.

Got the 2nd Trials Physics paper 3 today, I got 34 out of 40, haha. I still don't know how I can score so well in Physics - but I'm not complaining. I kinda bust my ass trying to wrap my head around Physics, and the work pays off. But that doesn't mean I understand it. LOL.

SPM is almost over - one more week - no time to slow down! TIME TO MOW THE LAST 3 PAPERS.

[Edit] Also, for some funny:

I'm not too sure about the details, but anyway, America's Big Three carmakers (Chrysler, Ford and General Motors, if I recall correctly), are in a pinch due to the current economic situation. The Democrats didn't like the Big Three because they didn't make fuel efficient cars, so the Big Three ran to the Republicans, but now the Republicans are refusing to bail the 3 companies out.

I'll search for some news, but I'm not in a hurry. But that's just so you understand the 'toons.

Photobucket
LOL, BARACK MOTORS. And, yeah, Obama got A LOT of cash during his campaign.

Photobucket
Hahaha, I'm not an Apple fan, but too funny to pass.
